Over Kellet A2B - Total Eclipse

An A to B hash required a ferrying of hashers from the Addams family residence at Brookhouse to the start point at Over Kellet. A superb sunset greeted the start and we were soon led up dog muck alley to the first stile and into open fields. As usual I was soon being left behind but it wasn’t long before Lurch’s car could be seen parked on the road with the tailgate open and a gathering of hashers around it. Beer stop already I thought? Brilliant! But no, it was just a check point (although drinks were available).

The first of two fishhooks saw 3 hashers fail to do the run around and instead I saw them laying on the floor, not sure what that was all about! They had in fact been shot by the RA for failing to observe the fishhook (Twisted).

Looking into the distance we could see the windmill masts beyond Brookhouse and I thought these would act as a good landmark if I got lost, I’ll just head for them and I’ll soon be back. As it happened they weren’t needed as Lurch kept popping up at regular intervals to check we were all present and correct (until we got to the woods that is).

Twot was spotted in Aughton taking photographs and then it was down the steepest hill in the world towards the river. I could hear Hashers voices that appeared to be coming from the woods high up on the right. Surely not I thought, they can’t be up there, it must be an echo! Wrong! A sudden right turn and up we went, with Upperskirt stopping to request an oxygen supply.

It was well and truly dark by now and myself and the rest of the backmarkers had taken the Rambo split (by mistake) and were threading ourselves precariously along the narrow path through the woods, eventually emerging to cross the river at the pipe bridge. Back down at sea level it was a brisk walk along the side of the river with clouds clearing occasionally to show off the full moon to good effect. Various deliberations took place about the time of the eclipse of the moon later that evening and what would actually happen – all would be revealed later.

A quick dash across the main road and we were soon back at the Addams family for the much looked forward to convorication (or whatever it’s called!). Good food, drink and jollity was enjoyed by all. I apologise to all my fans for only being able to perform one song during the karaoke due to my voice letting me down but promise I will return at a later date. The appropriately named Twisted presided over the hilarious Twister game with body joints being placed in hither before undiscovered positions, with regular interludes being undertaken to view the various stages of the eclipse of the moon – what was all that about? Just looked like a bit of cloud going past it so far as I could see!

An altogether super evening with a special vote of thanks to Lurch and Morticia for a great hash and their splendid hospitality.
