Langdon Beck - Langdon Beck YHA Weekend

Wet wet wet and cold cold cold. As one of the hares said "For the sake of argument, let's call this the shiggy run". We won't argue - we have had more shiggy before - but maybe not such slippery slopes or bouldery becks. The trail left the Bowlees Visitor Centre car park and headed up and up through wonderful woods but from thence onto the moors – bleak and windswept. The F checks kept the poor rambos chomping on their progressively more freezing bits as they waited for the females to catch up and check it out.

A sheer slope of wet and slippery moss left many of the pack on their backsides - either deliberately or accidental - Mouldy was even seen to bounce literally down to the bottom. Upperskirt decided to test the beck with her backside - not to be recommended. The welcome beerstop saw cake and liquid refreshment disappear fast - though not much socialising as no-one wanted to hang around. It was at this point that Cyberseptic realised that his better half had been left at the hostel and was not bringing up the rear as he had thought!

The final third of the run took us over a wobbly bridges and along the Tees to the Low Force falls where we were treated to a display of canoeing before making our way back to A where we were joined by the RA - truly a member of the Knitting Circle!. The circle was a group pat on the back for an excellent laid back and friendly weekend Thanks in no small part to the Septics - Thanks septics!. The intellectuals from the night before were down downed for getting 24 for w**k. Dick head was deemed the most popular name for the LVH3 mascot and Black Pussy was named prior to circumnavigating the known world.

PS - we still don't know what the mystery bracket was Toothfairy!

Highlights

Meeting old friends, soup and bread (sounds like the salvation army)

Drinking beer out of cans in the cold and rain wearing as many unco-ordinated layers of clothing as possible (sound like a group of homeless big issue sellers)

Gathering sweaty smelly bodies together in a brightly lit warm room with various books and games for entertainment and sharing a bottle of beer between 6 (sounds like shelter)

Deliberately running across the moors finding the boggiest bits to stamp around in, blowing a horn to make sure those at the back know just how far behind they are, being made to stand in the centre of a group circle in order to be humiliated and being made to pay for the privilege.

Love it ! - when's the next one ?
