This was our 2nd visit. We also visited on...
With nooks and crannies, old beams and a bit of an uneven floor, our bar is typical of an old-fashioned country pub where villagers meet to relax and welcome visitors to this lovely corner of the English countryside. Our wide range of hand pulled ales will capture the imagination of anyone who loves real ale, for others we have a selection of lagers, bitters, and unusual spirits.
There was a good turnout at Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield for run no 134. The weather was mixed, it had snowed earlier, so it was expected that there might be some difficulty finding the route and after the 1st 400yards there was. A check provided a choice of 4 routes with no trail to be seen. After a thorough search that Sherlock Holmes would have been proud of, minute traces of flour were discovered, confirmed by the presence of the Hare's red Mini at the end of the track.
We continued across some very gloopy fields and arrived in Priest Hutton, where the trail went cold. This is where the Wimps and Knitting Circle are at an advantage, we take care looking for trail and soon found and were ahead of the Rambos who as usual had run on in the wrong direction inspite of lack of trail. Onwards we ran across fields following part of a disused canal. Gradually the Rambos caught up and then overtook us and we lost them totally at the Wimps/ Rambos split. We also lost the trail but followed the public footpath to a road where there was no sign of the hash.
We searched this road in both directions for flour, chalk, a sign but there were none and luckily a committee decision to follow our nose was successful and we were back on trail and met up with the search party, Thunderdick who kindly escorted us to the beer stop.
We completed the run by taking a big loop back to the canal, which we followed to the On Inn. It was a satisfying run with good views, lots of shiggy and an excellent beerstop.
