This was our 4th visit. We also visited on...
It'll be a short, easy run, the hare said, make a change from our recent runs, he said, it'll be totally different from the other runs I've set from the New Inn - he said!!!
Well we set off at 7.15 (had to wait for on-sec!) and the first hill, and the first gate, and the first field were very familiar, and the pack started to mutter. But to be fair - this was where the similarity ended. From then 'on inn' for the next one and three quarter hours ( remember 'short' and 'easy') it was totally different. So it was long, very dark but good fun - just remind me what are we all doing - grown, sensible adults: stumbling along through mud and worse, tripping over tree trunks, sliding over stones, rolling over roots and even trying to demolish trees with our heads? And all in the name of fun!
We do actually owe an apology to the white horses of Yealand - who were quite terrified as we ran backwards and forwards in their field desperately trying to find the flour that they had licked up.... but if they hadn't eaten it we would have left them in peace much sooner!
This short and easy run had a beer stop, somewhere on a road and then we were off again, the wimps running 3 sides of a triangle, losing trail - more horses - and then finding it again.
Rambos returned later with stories of tampered trail - human not equine, Thunderdick will elaborate!
Thankfully the weather was mild and the rain only started at 9pm - just in time to remind us that we should have finished. Circle to welcome our virgins, Cathy and Charlie, and to praise the hash crashers: Forever Blowing, Atomic Caton and someone else - the blow to my head must have affected my memory!
We would have used the pub attached to the friendly carpark but we were too tired! Next time - promise!
Thanks NMC - despite it all, a well marked trail - a lot of effort on your part and lets face it you were bound to get a hard time from me!
