We arrived in the nick of time having first taken the Quernmore Road instead of the Littledale Road (the former must have only just been built as I’m sure it isn’t on my road atlas). However, it wouldn’t have mattered if we were ten minutes late as the Hare’s preamble resembled the time taken to deliver a Sunday morning sermon. By the time all the instructions had been delivered I had no chance of remembering them all and so resigned myself to the fact that I would be getting lost – a first for me of course!

By the time we set off it was going dark and I couldn’t see the flour so just tried to follow everyone else – on up until we were level with those gigantic aeroplane propellers that have been stuck in the ground for some inexplicable reason. Cum Yak Yak asking me if I was having chips and gravy after the hash turned my mind to whether the On Inn would still be serving food upon our return and I found it difficult to concentrate on following the trail thereafter. I obviously missed the first Wimp/Rambo split markings but luckily ended up on the Wimps. The second Wimp / Rambo split caught all the wimps out until we all started to question why we were following ‘R’ markings at which point we turned round and eventually (using a magnifying glass to spot the chalk markings) found the split and got back on trail.

So on to the end (which wasn’t quite the end as we still had a walk back to our cars) where we were to be treated by a roaring bonfire to keep us all warm during our circle. Well at least we would have been if the hare could have got it to stay alight. But then again he’s employed to put fire’s out, not to start them isn’t he!

In the circle I was awarded a down down for getting lost in Sainsbury’s last Saturday, Twisted and Feels on Wheels got down downs for not wearing hash gear, Cooperman for being a visitor (again), Bubbles and Forever Blowing for being luvvy duvvy, Twit and Twot for something else and James for being a virgin – although he was in hash gear!

There was no food back at the On Inn and so round the corner to the chippy for a steak pudding in addition to the chips and gravy  (8 out of 10) Twisted had a chip bun and James a fish bun and "all for around a fiver you know".  All food was followed by a beer or two in the pub afterwards and included the award of a card to Slackbladder for being a new dad. Splendid!

On On, Bitter.
