On Inn - Anglers Arms, Haverthwaite

Image of Anglers Arms, Haverthwaite

This was our 3rd visit. We also visited on...

Ten real ales served in a convivial atmosphere brings customers from near and far to the Anglers Arms, which stands in the heart of Haverthwaite, 200 yards off the A590 and a short distance from Ulverston.

The real ales come from a variety of breweries, including Moorhouses, Hawkshead, Copper Dragon, Black Sheep. I think that this is the best variety that you will get in the area.

Haverthwaite

The Biggest Rainfall Ever Recorded In England, dumped on Thursday just a few miles north, was still making its way to the coast, and being periodically topped up by more precipitation, as the Intrepid Hashers gathered in Haverthwaite.  “Chuckin’ it” doesn’t describe it.

Beermat and Meadslump saw us off and Fullybladdered led the way into the woods, pursued by Lemontwisted and Auntiesloshedpit.  The early rain eased as we wound a circuitous route through dells and slopes strewn with delightful paths and large puddles.  One such oversized pool saw Auntiesloshed and Cider-susceptible take the short and undoubtedly damp way through, some might say how Romantic, some might say they were trying to drown each other.

Back down to the road to view the river, the footbridge on the original planned route well submerged under a raging torrent, the weir thundering and the road closed.  PintofBitter took a photo, evidence above.

Back into the woods (noticeably uphill then a lovely pathless transverse trail – great stuff!) and down the north side with a view of the recently reinstated Rusland Pool.  The deluded and dehydrated FRBs searched in vain for a Beer Stop that turned out to be a Back Check – oooh the frustration – and consequently Whitewine unexpectedly found herself leading the pack…. straight into a sludgy cattle-churned squodge hey good leadership, no doubt DefinitelyNotOnTheWagon is used to this sort of thing.

This time the real Beer Stop with M AND S MINCE PIES and COPPER DRAGON BEER now that’s what I call quality wooppeee.  Too much of this and it’ll be Highasakite, followed by Headhurtlikeabrick and Sore Tum Tum, hell this is getting hard work wish I hadn’t started it.

Back to the Anglers where the beer is fine, the food pretty good and the chips poor. Damn good run on a day that later deteriorated into perpetual rain. Marvellous.
