Garstang - The Best Steak and Kidney Pie r*n

A.K.A. ‘The return of Lurch’

It was a gorgeous evening – sunshine and little wind …..well apart from that produced by Baldbrick…..but enough said. The focus of everyone’s attention was Lurch – yes Lurch, the elusive FRB who hasn’t been seen on a LVH3 hash since May 2012.

Where has he been??

Whispers have been heard and rumours have been rife among the hashing fraternity – and beyond. There was speculation that he‘d been kidnapped by aliens, others mused that he had been murdered by Morticia and hidden in the grounds of the Adams family home. She claims that he’s been working in the Far East and that she’s been Skype-ing him every evening – um, really? Is this a euphemism?

Some believed that Morticia’s kept him locked up for three months and … well I won’t elaborate on the speculations and fantasies that have been the focus of many hashing minds!!

Another theory purported was that he was soooooo pi**ed off by the British weather that we went in search of predicable sunshine and no rain, others conjectured that he went into hiding to escape the diamond jubilee celebrations and the Wimbledon men’s final.

Lurch too claims that he has been working in the Far East, reporting that he hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol for 3 months. Something that Baldbrick and SirTT find hard, extremely hard, to comprehend... what 3 months with NO booze, not one tipple? To add weight to his story throughout the hash Lurch could be heard recounting his adventures in the far east to the various hashers who were within ear-shot of him.

…well enough gossip. So what about the actual run - well Lurch returned and quickly resumed his usual Hash role of FRB. In the distance flashes of yellow could frequently be seen, no it wasn’t the full moon but Lurch in his bright yellow T-shirt, out there in front leading the way but seldom shouting ‘on on’.

As I said at the start it was a glorious evening and a fabulous run: on country roads, past an old ruin (no witty comment), though fields (of corn, shiggy, horses and foals -- aah), over and then under the M6 and along the canal back to the On Inn. Girl power ruled, YES no circle!
