R*n 45: Hest Bank

It was 21 September 2002 and wise men had predicted that there would be a full moon that night. So, stalwarts and stargazers from the LVH3 were gathered outside the Lodge atte Slyne, as a warm day drew to a close, to mark the occasion with a spot of exercise and lubrication. Those who made it were rewarded by the hares, Hash Drunk and Lurch, with an interesting run over varying terrain. Although the sky appeared to be quite clear, the moon decided not to participate and in the latter stages the majority were forced to rely on the minority, namely Bubbles, Pick-Me-Up and Pudsley, who had had the foresight to bring along torches of one kind or another.

Excellent checks took the wind out of the front-runners' sails and kept the pack in close contact for most of the route. The beer stop was provided down on the shore at Hest Bank, where hashers were forced to content themselves with admiring the reflection of street lamps in pools. It was at this point that Slackbladder was required to resume parental responsibility, of which Lurch had so far relieved him, and take Michael (forgotten his hash name) back to the A-site via a more direct route. The remainder made steady progress by torchlight. The knitting-circle was represented by Forever Blowing , Morticia and Cousin It, but I'm still waiting for them to complete their first jumper.

Unlike on our previous run, it was decided to have a circle and D2s were awarded. These went predictably to the hares in recognition of their efforts; to Pudsley, who has recently been noticed carving out a career as an FRB and to Atomic Caton, who found a check in the dark which would have been best not found.

After that, it was into the Lodge, where Bubbles began his preparations for the next day's run and Pick-Me-Up did a good impression of Oliver Twist.
