This was our 1st visit. We also visited on...
This was clearly going to an epic outing, as we had to join forces on the transport front
We shared cars with No More Cum and Cum Yak Yak. Cum Yak Yak kept us occupied on the journey. 2x2 are 4, 3x2 are six and don't forget 4x2's are 8! My brain was more than a little shocked by this at 10 o'clock on a Sunday morning!!
Nursery rhymes followed. We were rather taken aback when Cum Yak Yak proclaimed "if you are happy and you know it poo" After the chuckles died away, Cum Yak Yak proclaimed "You know, Winnie the Pooh!" Still you often find a "pooh" can make you feel happy and satisfied, whatever form it takes!
It was a lovely day and as we approached Ravenstonedale, we were treated to an open pub and bright sunny weather. Things were looking-up especially compared to the pub we met at in run 60 (Strickland arms)
Oh too soon, where were the hares (Antiseptic and Cyberseptic)? Antiseptic was the first to appear slightly late proclaiming "it's wet"! Cyberseptic followed in stating that part of the route had been marked incorrectly but luckily he had marked the right route. I was getting worried now that there was a potential of getting lost and missing the pub?
The circle was made and we were warned that the Rambo's would have difficulty catching up. They could see why when the Wimps set off in the car! (I set off in the car to lesson the chances of missing the pub!)
We were slightly slowed up by Cum Yak Yak who was now on to what does 1+1 make? (11?)
The car stopped at the mast slightly up the hill out of Ravenstonedale. We were assured that this had cut out approximately three miles off the Rambo route. I mistakenly thought that it must now be a simple onward leg and back to the pub in an hour or so? How wrong!
We went across hill, down dale (Smardale Fell I think), (fantastic views across Crosby Garrett Fell) and finally met up for a drinks stop at Smardale. Antiseptic was waiting with the welcome sight of the "tinny Bucket". We were getting a little concerned that since setting-off, we had moved in a direction that was always away from the pub? We asked the inevitable "are we past half way yet?" The reply was something like "I would like to say yes, but no" . On-On... No sign of the Rambo's who probably hadn't got to where the wimps had started!
On-On... along a disused railway track over Smardalegill Viaduct, past a quarry (all very interesting and a good place for further exploration). Occasionally we stopped to look back for the Rambo's but I bet even superman couldn't have seen them.
The trail split at a river and for a little while we thought we were lost Gossamer and Semicolon found the trail again, we waded of across the river and set-off back in what now seemed to be the general direction of the pub.
Black dots on the horizon behind us, It looked like a Rambo but as we had Ravenstonedale in our sights, on-on quickly.
The run was nearly over but two large walls with high step type stiles confronted us.
The dog belonging to The Judge and The Accused had had enough. There was no way it was going to attempt the stile. Forever Blowing, lifted the dog on to the top of the wall and The Judge gave the smelly wet muddy pooch a big cuddle before putting it down. Still what ever floats your boat! At the next stile I lifted the dog up myself just to see if it would get lucky again Sure enough The Judge could not resist!
On-On... back to the pub, phew it was still open.
Some while later the Rambo's appeared! Bubbles was heard to exclaim "it's the first time in over two hundred runs, that the Rambo's have not caught the Wimp's". I thought to myself, if there is any chance of the pub closing before we get back, you had better get used to it!
( It was also noted that Odd Glimpse made her debut with the "knitting circle"!!)
