Caton to Gressingham - A to BBQ

Waking up and not knowing what's going to happen today is actually pretty normal for me. However today's A to B r*n had that air of mystery that you normally only experience watching an episode of Inspector Morse or when you're totally inebriated and you don't know what will happen next.

The only bit of r*nning I did was from home to the start at Bull Beck car park. Once all the quips about "not recognising the car park in daylight" had been completed we were ready to form a circle of a small but quality bunch of elite athletes.

So, after a brief brief from the hares (two splits and a beer stop and help each other) we followed the instruction to check it out and what followed was an amble through the most beautiful valley in England, the Lune Valley.

Over the 683, west down the multi-use path, down to the water works bridge, right turn through the bluebell laden woods where a split occurred. I rambled with the wimps where we had to negotiate a fallen tree across the path and a steep bank, which is where we had to help each other. I had a swing on a rope swing and posed for the obligatory photo and we carried on along the valley floor to the foot of the hill up to Aughton where we joined the Rambos - Lurch and Pudsley at the beer stop.

It was at this point Forever Blowing lived up to her name and gave us a demonstration of blowing bubbles. Such a thing I've never seen, especially her handling of the device she used in the process. I've never witnessed such a thing done with complete abandon in public. It really is amazing what people get up to.

After a feast of Jelly Babies, Cadbury's marshmallow tea cakes and peanut biscuits we continued along the valley floor and past the Snab. I'm aware of most of the old crossing points over the river and, with the river being low, I thought "would they, would they take us across the river over an old ford?"

This was where none of had a clue where we would end up. As we got nearer to Hornby it seemed likely we would end up there to meet the hares in the car park but no, we suddenly moved away from the river and found ourselves going through Eskrigg. We continued through stunning countryside with amazing views, on down to Gressingham where we found the hares and the Rambos awaiting our arrivial.

After some transport arrangements had been made, we were chauffeur driven to the On Inn at the home of Bubbles & Forever Blowing. The circle was had, down downs dispensed and the barbecue lit. Cyberseptic and the Gibbons family joined us for the BBQ as did a later arriving Baldbrick. The sun shone. We ate. We drank. We laughed.
