DaytimeR*n 66 »

A sunny day dawned and although the Accused was staying at home to play with his dado a number of hashers met in the car park of the Globe Hotel in Overton. Pleased to note that our two hares had managed to negotiate some lovely weather for the hash. As Run No. 66 this was the world cup run and Muff Diver promised us 45 minutes each way - what a daunting prospect.

We were promised a scenic, pleasant hash in a non-shiggy kind of way, and so as a close-knit bunch we set off through the village and for once, Bubbles didn't have the horn. We encountered numerous checks and some interesting paths around Overton before heading off the wrong way what seemed to be a rather long driveway. Having been called back by some members of the group the hashers who had gone the wrong way trotted back to the correct path, some deviated from the intended route and others followed the slightly longer route whereupon it was noticed that the arrows showing a change of route direction were in fact on the gatepost and could only be seen when returning from the wrong direction - I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Anyway, along the coast we ran. At this point the rambos promptly took off across the shiggy leaving the knitting circle to wade through the stagnant mud and cowpats letting out loud yelps and screams when they sank into the mire - and boy did we sink! I managed to sink virtually up to my armpits (not difficult when you're only 5' tall) much to the amusement of my fellow hashers.

After a much needed beer stop the rambos headed off on the split towards Sunderland Point and the wimps took the route along the bank. We headed off across the fields towards Middleton where the hares had managed to find one particular waterlogged field, which we could use to wash the black shiggy from our wet trainers.

The wimps then followed the road and a footpath back into Overton where we witnessed the arrival of several half naked rambos. On the whole a very pleasant run, my only complaint being that I managed to go home with considerably more stains than I came out with (if anybody needs clarification on this please feel free to ask me at the next hash and I will explain in detail!).  Also, Hash Drunk was heard proclaiming that joining the knitting circle led to less jerking up and down for him, no further comments.

  • The hares: for setting the hash and organising good weather
  • Bubbles and Forever Blowing: for route deviation
  • Lurch: for non-blind hashing
  • Judge, Morticia, Pickmeup and Hash Drunk: the choral society across the shiggy
  • Fugitive Nipple: tool abuser
  • Morticia, Muff Diver and P-Dough: for bad hash haberdashery
