TO HASH OR NOT TO HASH - THAT WAS THE QUESTION!

For a life long motorsport fan on a day that two motor sport championships could be finalised and were due to be televised, the question was to Hash or not. So check weather forecast, head, legs, kit, Hash T shirt) and make decision - the result, carpe diem! Cram it in while you can, was the answer.

So sunshine out, jump into car and speed towards Silverdale, rewarded by the magnificent sunlit vista of Morecambe Bay (from the hill descending into Over Kellett), the Bay being actually full of water, which buoyed up the spirit if not the legs - for some reason my visits to the Bay normally result in seeing a vast expanse of sand, with very little watery stuff!

Arriving at Silverdale, Shore Road was teeming with hashers, some 23 hounds and 2 Hares, including some old faces like Four Candles and Short Cutter and many new faces and yougsters, all encountering a blustery cold wind emanating from the Atlantic. Following the Hares normal double-act of confusing instructions, and a moment of madness when I voulteered to compose this missive,we set off in numerous directions until someone shouted on,on and so off we went at a fair old pace.

So as usual, I gravitated to the rear of the action and found myself with Off His Trolley, as normal, so we rambled on about nautical matters whilst rambling, which was quite appropriate as we found ourselves on a footpath above the sea and then alongside the sea, and if we had followed the wrong path at Jenny Brown’s, in the sea! There was a moment of panic when Lurch approached from the opposite direction, who appeared to be concerned that with tide coming in and us being the rear guard the sea may devour us, but we had no intentions of swimming in that murky brown, cold water.

I remarked to Lurch that perhaps volunteering to scribe when one is walking at the back meant that I would have no idea what else was going on elsewhere (as you can see so far), to which that erudite gentleman replied that perhaps Hashers at the front would like to know what goes on at the back. Well, now I can tell you - not a lot! What we did notice was that this R*n seemd to have a lot of Rambo’s when we set off and there was a fishhook, so why did we have encounters with only 3 Rambo’s, not a lot? Rambos - we know who you are!

Other than that we had a brief encounter with Upperskirt and Belle, who was determined to test the water with a bit of paddling with her shoes on, resulting in somewhat cold feet, but we soon parted company when we came to that hill, where we rather fell behind. So arriving at the beer stop, we had a quick Vimto and chocky biccy and continued rambling, interspersed with stops to ‘hide behind a tree’, as my nautical friend OHT described it, an affliction necessitated by said sustenance in men of a certain age (old!).

We never get lost, just loose our bearings, so emerging from the forest onto a main road in Silverdale with no markings visible, we had to rely on OHT’s navigation skills to arrive back at the On Inn, to find that there was no circle and every one was, quite wisely, inside said pub.

That ‘s everyone except Doormouse, who seemed to be lost - again. I hope he’s turned up.

So now your’e not a lot wiser about what goes on at the back - as I said, not a lot! Thanks to the Hares for a very enjoyable Hash, combining both forest and seaside and thoroughly enjoyable - I’m glad I turned out. And it looks like LVH3 is in safe hands for its future.

Oh - and the motor racing, since you asked. Max Verstappen won the FI World Championship for the second time, again in controversial style, and Tom Ingram became the BTCC Champion for the first time. So all in all, a great day, thanks to LVH3 and catch up TV.
