First things first, we must congratulate Large Package on his first haring venture. No fish hooks (huzzah!), an interesting route and one could say some sparse flour laying, and I’m not just being kind because of the cakes and family relationship 😉.
So off we trotted down the first footpath of which all I can remember was it was narrow and a tad slidey slidey. Then the Wimps and Rambos split, never to see each other again and a hardy pack of 5 (or so we thought) went off across the fields in search of adventure.
It was around this point that someone remarked that LP mentioned he managed to keep his feet dry whilst haring, although there were some rather large puddles to be seen. I took it as a personal goal to avoid all wetness which did involve some rather graceful jumping over muddy puddles.
And so, the Famous Five ran through fields and down canals and most certainly did not get a little bit lost all the while dreaming of the cake stop, which eventually appeared through the darkness at about 6km.
After having my 5th variety of birthday cake, we set off again only to get confused by a check that we thought had been kicked out, although that really sums up our skills as hashers that evening. Of course, I will blame it all entirely upon my brother (soon to be named) who as it turns out doesn’t have very good eyesight in the dark.
Then to top it all off, missed some flour on the A6 so also missed a check and ran down the main road for a bit before finding a mysterious arrow from the right. Back to Pine Lake to discover that there were indeed some other Rambos who had not yet returned and who may or may not have been confused by our kicking out and rebuilding of checks.
So a suck it down down of orange juice for me, a down down for Lurch kindly taking the responsibility of our check marking, I also think there was a Hash Crash and a naming for Jacob as Sharp Intake, no postal family name for him.
A very hashy birthday to me!
