On Inn - Scarthwaite Country House Hotel, Caton

Image of Scarthwaite Country House Hotel, Caton

This was our 1st visit to this On Inn.

Set in wooded grounds overlooking the River Lune this family-run Victorian country house hotel is 1.8 miles from J34 of the M6 motorway. The conservatory restaurant serves locally sourced, home-made cuisine at affordable prices and the adjoining bar with open fire offers local beers and ales as well as traditional lagers and bitters.

Crook O'Lune

As it was a beautiful morning, we decided to start our hash from home. That was our first mistake! On the way, we saw run markings but in the opposite direction, so we did consider sitting and waiting for the hash to come past us but that would have been our second mistake because only the rambos were to pass that way! Having gathered all together, we set off down to the riverside heading east, cheered on by the applause for Baldrick's horn playing from spectators! Once across to the opposite bank, we realised where we were heading but I for one never thought that we would have to go as far east as the aquaduct. Still the beer was waiting for us by the side of the canal. The trail for the rambos lead even further west, crossing the river again over Skerton Bridge whilst the wimps crossed at the aquaduct and then headed back east via the Millenium and riverside paths. Along run for us all!

Down downs were given to "occasional hashers" - the 2 hares, Comes to Order and new comer Francis and there were others but I cannot remember to whom and this is the third time I have tried to write this as the web site keeps going back without any help from me so this will have to do.

On On, White Noise.
