This was our 1st visit to this On Inn.
An usually early night for a hash weekend put me in fine fettle for the Sunday r*n. The trail took us to Sandyhills beach car park, and up the main road to find a way into Dalbeattie forest. The trail through the forest came to a notice board pointing out that there was a crannog in a loch. Ready About, Hard Astern and others had constructed a sandcastle complex for the trolls the previous day, complete with troll footprints. I looked but could see no trolls. Maybe others have more acute troll vision than me. Ready About said she would add a crannog to the sandcastle for the trolls with appropriately scaled tree trunks.
The trail took us to a 5-way junction of footpaths. After some consultation of the maps we had been provided with, we set off in the opposite direction to that of the pub and took in a front-r*nners loop.
We arrived at the On Inn, the Clonyard House Hotel, and were unsure if the hotel was open for us before 12 o’clock. We sat outside in weak sunshine until a waitress came out and asked what we wanted. It was her first day on the job and she was disorientated to hear that 13 or 14 of us would be arriving. Upper Skirt and some others asked for coffee, but not much appeared. So eventually we went inside and ordered beer and food. Belhaven Best (Belhaven Worst if the brand name accurately reflected the product) was the draft beer on offer, and unfortunately some hashers bought before moving on to bottled Deuchars.
Some took the bus back, but others so enjoyed the previous day's hash so much that they decided to go back to the lodges via the scenic coastal footpath, doing the previous day's route backwards. The hash was so good they did it twice!
