Spark Bridge

The windscreen wipers were doing overtime on the Levens Causeway sluicing off the monsoon-like rain as we drove to this hash’s start point, wondering on the sanity of today’s hash.

Remarkably the rain eased and a magnificent rainbow invited us on in search of a pot of gold. And our opening circle at Sparks Bridge was surprisingly dry. Though I noted that hashing in the UK with an umbrella was under trial by Tom Tom.

Either by skill or luck, the markings led the rambos astray frequently so that the wimps kept on ending in front. Dormouse and Speedbump need practice in the marking of their “lollipop” route design to perfect it to deter one group heading up the inwards trail, one group heading up the outward trail and a bunch of don’t knows waiting the outcome or the promptings of a hare.

Further hare assistance was required until we reached a rambo wimp split. Much of the way was slogging through 3 inch deep water.

At the split the Rambos demonstrated how not to to hash: Bedtime Stories, Big Fish, Spare Bed, Spare Rib, Virgin Adam, Virgin Kirsty, Large Package and Lurch all went to the main road in an unnecessary kilometre extension to the route, having lost well marked turning on the trail within 20 metres of the WR split.

Rambos climbed up through sloping paddy fields and what could prove to be the new location of the bog snorkelling world championship. On the top the wind blew and it began to feel a little chilly. Full marks for small dog, children and virgins for grit and we do hope to see you again! We reached the refreshment stop, but alas, the wimps had gone and we saw no more of them until the end.

The bus shelter provided an excellent marshalling point for the circle. Not many down downs: Big Fish proxied for the Rambos’ diversion, a couple of hash crashes and of course the hares.

Thanks hares, it was good to be out and see some new territory too.

Lunch was a bit tardy and chaotic, but the food was good when it arrived. The delay led to an interesting bit of limbo dancing from OHT which has been captured digitally and displayed on our web site.
