On Inn - Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield

Image of Longlands Hotel, Tewitfield

This was our 10th visit. We also visited on...

With nooks and crannies, old beams and a bit of an uneven floor, our bar is typical of an old-fashioned country pub where villagers meet to relax and welcome visitors to this lovely corner of the English countryside. Our wide range of hand pulled ales will capture the imagination of anyone who loves real ale, for others we have a selection of lagers, bitters, and unusual spirits.

I suppose if you turn up half an hour late for hash it goes without saying that you’ll be dobbed in as scribe. Mea Culpa

But what a lovely hash to write up - expertly laid with Newcastle references to show the heritage of Bedtime Storeys hashing life. The FRB stops went down well - or so I heard! (Maybe they could be incorporated into our lexicon?) But the holding checks weren’t understood by the Rambos so I guess they hadn’t waited for the others to turn up before checking. I’m told that one hound was overheard to say “at last - a REAL hash”. A massive compliment.

Meanwhile I hashed in solitude, peace and quiet for more than an hour over and under the motorway, 270 degrees around a field, several wrong checks with no “RU?s” to be followed up. Mostly my fault as I checked out footpaths that we’ve used before only to discover that the hares had found lesser used alternatives. Well recce-ed. But also I was able to ignore the Fish hooks!

But then I finally came upon Double Entry, Chat Bot and then the rest of the Rambos posing for a photo on a particularly photogenic bridge. And just around the corner we got to the Beer Stop to find that the Wimps were long gone. Thankfully they hadn’t eaten all the cupcakes and Big Fish reluctantly handed them round hoping that we’d still leave some for him. (We did!)

Departing from the BS some decided to take the Uber Wimp option along the canal while the hardy Rambos took the scenic route back to the On Inn via fields less travelled and hills less marked.

Returning to the decidedly upwardly mobile Longlands which has certainly been upgraded since I was last there, the wimps had wimped out of a circle and were lined up at the bar.

Apparently there is a name waiting for Mrs Double Entry - tbc!

A perfect trail on a lovely September Sunday and On On to October where the runs need hares, and the AGPU needed a location - now sorted.

STT says the write up needs some Latin content so as my 2nd contribution I leave you with our Mother Hash’s motto - Kowloon H3 - corpus sanem in correndo et bibendo (A healthy body through exercise and drinking)
